Do you dare to take the plunge?
Who’s ready to take the plunge? The 27th annual Polar Bear Plunge is happening this week! The Polar Bear Plunge is a tradition that was started when 35 participants jumped into the icy cold water of the outdoor pool to celebrate the opening of the building. Since then, we have carried on the tradition, with the all-time record hitting 1,200 jumpers in 2014. The plunge is open to all ECU students, faculty, and staff free of charge.
When: January 19th, 2023 starting at 6:30 pm
Where: Eakin Student Recreation Center Outdoor Pool
This year, students are required to digitally sign a waiver before jumping. Students who do not sign the waiver before coming will not be allowed in the building until it is signed. This will cause a delay in your jumping. Sign the waiver today on the ECU Rec app or by visiting the CRW Member Portal.
After jumping, the indoor pool will be open to warm up in. There, you will be able to participate in some water games or float around. It’s up to you! After warming up, you can visit the organization fair on Basketball Courts 5 & 6 near the rock-climbing wall. Here, you will be able find various clubs and organizations like Club Rock Climbing.
Jumpers will receive a free t-shirt as well as a custom deck of playing cards. We will also have free food, trivia, and card games available for students to participate in after jumping. Food will include chicken fingers, spring rolls and birthday cake.
Don’t have anyone else to jump with? Don’t worry! This year, we are providing a way to pair up lone jumpers with each other. Simply fill out this survey to indicate that you want to be paired with someone. By Tuesday, January 17th, you will receive an email with the information of who you have been paired up with. From there, you are able to get to know your partner and take the plunge together!
