Richard R. and JoAnn M. Eakin Student Recreation Center

In Fall 2020, the Student Recreation Center was renamed the Richard R. and JoAnn M. Eakin Student Recreation Center (ESRC). The Eakin Student Recreation Center honors Dr. Richard Eakin who was ECU’s fourth chancellor and eighth chief administrative officer and served numerous leadership roles at ECU for 26 years before retiring in 2013. Dr. Eakin played a pivotal role in the creation of the Student Rec Center in 1997. 

The Eakin Student Recreation Center was the winner of the prestigious “Facility of Merit” Award from Athletic Business Magazine. The 150,000ft² facility has five basketball courts, a 27 ft rock climbing wall, Adventure Center, indoor and outdoor pool, 12,000 ft² weight and fitness area, indoor track, Indoor Cycling Zone, Mind & Body Zone, Resistance Training Zone, Functional Cross Training Zone, Turf and Rubber Training Zones, space3 racquetball courts, 3 multipurpose studios, the Cardio Zone with premier equipment that features Netflix, cable tv, and internet access, classroom space, a family changing room with shower, and a newly added Athletic Training facility. Our Adventure Center has indoor and outdoor sporting equipment available for rental. There is access to day use lockers and rental lockers in the locker rooms.
