Intramural Sports: The Rundown

ECU Intramurals offers a variety of different sports, with some of the most popular being football, basketball and soccer! With so many organizations and sports, there is no shortage of ways to be involved. You can sign up through Greek life or join a team by yourself. Nevertheless, you are sure to have a great experience! Intramurals kicked off the semester with its welcome back event that consisted of games and prizes. This two-day event was held on Court One at the Student Recreation Center. On the first day of this event the intramural staff hosted a game of Hot Shot. Half of the court was numbered one to five and you were awarded points based on which number you took a shot at. Based on the points you made you had the opportunity to win a prize! On the second day they set up a 3 point contest. You take four shots from five different spots around the court. If you made 10 points, you won a t-shirt! I mean, who doesn’t want a free t-shirt?

This event was put together to get the intramural season up and running as well as encourage people to join! So, what do I think the best part of joining intramurals is? IT’S FREE! You can register online right here: https://crw.ecu.edu/intramural-sports-information/

Some fellow intramural players talked about their favorite part of playing intramurals. One of the most popular answers received was the competitiveness. The competition alone gives students a rush of excitement as they take on their fellow classmates. Others enjoy the social aspect and having the opportunity to hang out with friends. One student commented that she enjoyed the sister bonding experience she got from playing alongside her sorority sisters. While competitiveness plays a factor in why some students play, don’t let that shy you away from joining a team! Within each sport there are different leagues as well as the opportunity to form different teams so you can play at the level you want. In the end its all fun and games, so whether you’ve been playing your whole life or decided yesterday that you wanted to join a team, you can!
