Random Acts of Kindness
Congratulations to everyone for making it through the January milestone! As we all begin to settle into another month of this new year, it remains important to set aside time to act with compassion. Not simply towards those you know personally but to complete strangers and even towards yourself. Celebrated on February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. An awareness holiday dedicated to the caring gestures we all contribute to one another.
These kind acts can be subjective depending on the person. A simple hand wave or compliment can be uplifting for anyone’s cloudy day. Here’s a few personal examples that we would like to share.
If you’re looking to act kindly for others:
Start with simple gestures
Saying hello to others when on your route to work or school. Not only the people in your neighborhood but to new faces.
Consider a bit of charity
Everyone’s situation is unique, and you never know who may need a helping hand from time to time. Donating old clothes or canned goods can serve as positive outreach in the local community.
Get yourself involved
There are plentiful of programs and volunteer opportunities that we can contribute to. Plan some of your time to pay it forward while also keeping yourself and others safe.
If you’re looking to act kindly for yourself:
Focus on the positive
Rather than being held back by your fears, consider looking at the bright side of life. Look at yourself in the mirror and compliment your achievements.
Treat yourself
Create time to value yourself by celebrating. Fuel your body, mind, and spirit by doing the things that make your face smile.
Remember to relax
Burnout is a realistic occurrence that happens to nearly everyone. Remember to schedule time for your body to rest through study breaks or naps.
These are only snippet of how a person can celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day. It’s a holiday where we all should express creativity and compassion towards one another, while additionally setting a moment or two for ourselves. Even the smallest action can bring about the greatest of change.
2020 continuedly challenged our Pirate Nation. From students to faculty, we all have had to keep our distance and make practical adjustments for the time being.
