Peer Health at ECU

Campus Wellness and Fitness strives to provide the ECU Community with health information, programs and resources that promote healthy lives styles among members of ECU’s campus community. One of the ways that our wellness and fitness team achieve this goal is through the efforts of our Well-being Ambassadors. Well-Being Ambassadors are hired and trained student leaders that help to encourage other students to make responsible and healthy choices regarding different health and wellness topics. They assist the Wellness and Fitness team with developing, and conducting outreach programming across ECU’s campus in an effort to inform fellow Pirates about relevant health, wellness and fitness issues as they relate to related to health and wellness that affect ECU’s campus community.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct health education outreach programs and presentations on a variety of topics including, mental health, substance use, sexual health, nutrition, healthy relationships and more for student organizations, academic classes and residence halls
  • Staff, track attendance, and engage with student population during weekly wellness events including, Munchie Monday, Therapeutic Thursday and Fresh Food Friday.
  • Work a flexible schedule as needed including availability for presentations, programs and meetings on nights and some weekends.
  • Assist with Campus Recreation and Wellness programs and special events, including Raid the Rec, Beach Fest, Fresh Check Day and more.
  • Create content for the Stall Talks on topics such as mental health, career well-being, stress management, and more.
  • Serve as an advocate, mentor and ally for the Ecu Collegiate Recovery Community and staff the Collegiate Recovery Center
  • Staff the Wellness Center desk, serve as a resource for students, staff and faculty and conduct various administrative duties
  • Provide wellness screening services to walk-in customers including, BMI readings, body fat percentage, height and weight, etc. while working at the Wellness Center Desk
  • Track walk-in customers and maintain records while working at the Wellness Center Desk

Requirements

  • ECU student in good academic standing
  • Complete the applicant-interview process
  • A passion for recreation, wellness and health education
