Skylar Smith, a Senior Nutrition Student here at ECU, introduces the New Season of Beyond the Lines! A podcast by students, for students, like you! She is using this podcast season to discuss all things Health and Well-Being, and how you can implement that here on campus and throughout your time as a student.
She has lots of fantastic and knowledgeable guests lined up to come on the show and discuss these great topics! Many of the guests this season are former or current students, ECU professors, and Greenville locals! We will discuss fitness, nutrition, myths, tips and tricks, goal setting, scheduling, lifestyle, and more! Movement and Mindset: Jane’s Journey

Jane Simmons is a personal trainer as well as a health and wellness influencer. She was a performance major here at East Carolina University. While at ECU, she learned all about show business, producing, advertising, and self-promotion. After graduation, she pursued show business in Florida and then decided to take a big jump, move to NYC, get her personal training certification, and start her career as a trainer. Since then, she has developed her own online business and started working for a company that she loves.
In this podcast, Jane discusses the growth process she has experienced over the last few years and how her time at school influenced current career. She offers listeners insightful advice on becoming who you’re meant to be, and answers student questions focused on how to balance a busy life.

Meet the Host: Zoe Gabrielle!

Change can be a hard, yet beautiful thing. We are still making our way through season three, but we would like to welcome Zoe Gabrielle as our new host! Zoe is a senior studying Theatre, Communications, and Film. Zoe discusses her transition to ECU, from college radio, to podcast editing, and now hosting. Her introduction is met with charming quips, sincerity, and plenty of puns. As the episode continues she goes into further detail about the continuation of season three and what to expect as she hosts the remainder of the season.

Making Room on the Sidewalk

Have you ever taken a moment to truly observe your surroundings? Join our new host Zoe Gabrielle and her guests as they discuss occupying predominantly white spaces, and the effect it has had on them while attending a predominantly white university. The episode begins with intriguing introductions by her guests Tyanna Fuller, Sydney Frontanez, and Jarious Carter. The episodes continues as they discuss the disproportionate rate of minority students that attend the university and how to be an ally. As the episode comes to an end we are reminded of how we are all connected as living beings, and we are all entitled to being treated with kindness and compassion. A simple gesture, such as making extra space on the sidewalk, is used as analogy for creating a world where marginalized groups feel seen, heard, and validated. Be sure to give it a listen because you won’t want to miss out!

Do You Even Lift Bro?

In this episode, Dylan and Jonathan Stancill discuss their friendship, brother relationship, and how they have used that to hold each other accountable, lift each other up, and go on to create their own business together while still balancing student life. Dylan is a student here at ECU and his brother, Jonathan, studies at Pitt Community College. In this podcast, they share lots of stories and examples on how having people in your life to hold you true to your word are so beneficial. They discuss the ups and downs and strategies of how they created their own business at such a young age. During times of struggle it can be hard to ask for help, let alone retell the painful memories, but for Mark Lore he found the most strength and the will to overcome when faced with adversity. In this week’s episode of Beyond the Lines, Zoe and Mark discuss world travel, music, and combating eating disorders. In this encouraging episode of Beyond the Lines, we begin with jet-setting tales of Europe as Mark recaps his time traveling as a military dependent. The episode continues as the pair delves into the subject of self-care and overcoming eating disorders. Nothing is off limits in this episode, as the audience gets an authentic look into the male perspective of daily stressors, body image, friendship, and growing up.
